MTHE Bids Farewell to Dr. Massaquoi

The Ministry of Technical and Higher Education (MTHE) has on 15th March, 2022 at its Conference Room at New England Ville bidden farewell to Dr. Victor Massaquoi, having served in the Ministry as Director of Technical, Vocational, Education and Training (TVET) and recently being appointed as Chairman/Commissioner of the Independent Media Commission (IMC) by H.E. President Julius Maada Bio.

Dr. Victor Massaquoi is a household name in Sierra Leone's media landscape, and has served in various capacities in ensuring media freedom, ethics and professionalism. He has worked for three different NGOs as Executive Director, and has done consultancies for the public and private sector in the last 30 years, producing reports and critical literature for academia, NGOs and private businesses.

Academically, he holds the following degrees:

  • Ph.D. in Development Communication Studies and Social Policy Analysis, USA and S/L
  • MSc Management (Minor in Marketing and Communication) Ohio, USA
  • BA (with Hons.) in Communication pol.sc and International Relations, New Jersey, USA
  • He studied/worked in the UK, Germany, Austria, India, USA, Ghana, Nigeria, The Gambia and Sierra Leone
  • He has authored a book, book chapters and academic articles and technical reports.

In his words of sentiments, MTHE's Senior Permanent Secretary, Mr. Gilbert Cooper, commended Dr. Massaquoi for ensuring that the Ministry meets its mission and vision statement throughout his stay as Director of TVET. He congratulated him and wished him well in his new Office. According to Mr. Cooper, MTHE has lost a very vibrant, hardworking and easygoing colleague, who would be very difficult to replace.

Other members of the Ministry also threw good words of sentiment at him for his generosity, encouragement and motivation to them.

 

Dr. Victor Massaquoi expressed his profound gratitude for receiving such kind words of sentiment from people whom he considers as family. He mentioned that he was able to learn a lot from the Ministry during his stay, assuring members of his willingness to continue to work with them whenever the need arises. "I am really pleased with your sentiments towards me...I want to thank you for the support you gave to me and for the collaboration," he said.
