Mr. Sarjoh Aziz-Kamara
Deputy Minister of Technical and Higher Education


Mr. Sarjoh Aziz-Kamara, the Deputy Minister of Technical and Higher Education, has sound professional background having served in various capacities internationally and nationally. Prior to his appointment by the President of Sierra Leone, His Excellency Rtd. Brig. Dr. Julius Maada Bio, he worked with the United Nations for about ten years in various capacities supporting institutional reform and peacekeeping operations in Liberia and South Sudan. From 2012 to 2016, he was Civil Affairs Officer with the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) where he supported peace consolidation and institutional capacity building. He further served (2016-2018) as Policy Adviser and Security Sector Reform Officer to the United Nations Police Component supporting the development of law enforcement and security institutions in Liberia. As Best Practices Focal Point in UNMIL, he participated in several sessions in New York, Italy, Austria, Ghana and Uganda, aimed at promoting knowledge sharing and organizational learning in the United Nations.
Mr. Sarjoh Aziz-Kamara joined the United Nations Mission in South Sudan in 2018 as Political Affairs officer and Team Leader where he coordinated the Field Integrated Operations Centre and Crisis Management, supporting implementation of the South Sudan Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in South Sudan.
In 2006-2007, Mr. Sarjoh Aziz-Kamara, supported the implementation of the Sierra Leone Local Government Act (2004) as Capacity Building Manager of the Institutional Reform and Capacity Building Project, funded by the Government of Sierra Leone and World Bank.
He was Community Development Officer for Conflict and Change in United Kingdom where he supported community cohesion and building of resilient communities, and support to vulnerable groups including Black Minority Ethnic communities, asylum seeking, refugees and the homeless. He further served as Project Manager for the Hand-in-Hand Refugees and Homeless Support Group and supported the work of the Catholic Fund for Overseas Development (CAFOD) in East London as a Volunteer.

After his graduation from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone in 1999 with a BA Hons Degree in Geography, Mr Aziz-Kamara also briefly served as a teacher at Albert Academy, Freetown, before taking up appointment as Project Officer with the Counterparts in Rehabilitation and Development in Sierra Leone (CORD-SL).

Mr Aziz- Kamara also holds MBA from the University of Sunderland, an MSc, Violence, Conflict and Development, School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, United Kingdom, and Post-Graduate Diploma in Strategic Leadership and Management, Chartered Management Institute, United Kingdom.

He is married with children.
