THE UNIVERSITY OF SIERRA LEONE Higher education in Sierra Leone was restructured in 2005 by the Universities Act of 2005 which provides for the establishment of private universities. In the Act the University of Sierra Leone was reconstituted to include Fourah Bay College (FBC), Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM), and the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS).The restructured University of Sierra Leone is superintended by a Vice-Chancellor and Principal who is the chief academic and administrative head of the university and a Registrar.

The Academic Affairs Division is an arm of the University Registry that handles several critical specific and generalized academic issues. It is responsible for the running of the following committees and activities: Senate Executive Committee of Senate Honorary Degrees Committee University Curriculum Committee Common Seal and Emblem Committee Discipline Committees University Matriculation (including English Matriculation Examination) University Congregation Appointment of external examiners Tuition Waiver Statements, certification and publication of results, and attestations Any other duties as assigned by the University Registrar

The executive and day-to-day management of the university is the responsibility of the University Secretariat headed by the Vice-Chancellor and Principal and which includes the Registrar, the Finance Director, the Director of Physical and Plant Services, the Director of Planning, the Director of Information & Communication, the Director of Research and Development, the Procurement Officer and the Internal Auditor. Each campus has a Deputy Vice Chancellor who, subject to the control and direction of the Vice-Chancellor and Principal, serves as the Chief Academic, Administrative and Accounting Officer of the campus. Deans and Heads of Academic Departments provide academic leadership.
